Everything reaches the same desk, so the fastest way to get a useful answer is to say in the first line which of the following you are sending.
editors@timelessticks.com
We read everything. We aim to answer within a few business days, and corrections go to the front of the line. We are a small operation, so a long technical question may take longer than a short one, and we would rather say that than promise a turnaround we would miss.
Why there is no contact form. A form needs a server to receive it, a place to put what you typed, and usually a spam-filtering service in the middle. This site is a set of static files with no database and no server-side code, so there is nowhere for a form to send anything. An email address is the honest version of a contact form, and what happens to your message once it arrives is described in our privacy policy.
Mail. We do not publish a mailing address: the site is run by a small independent publisher rather than a company with an office, and the reasons are set out on the ownership and funding page. If you have a matter that genuinely requires written correspondence or a named recipient, say so by email and it will be arranged.
What happens to your message. We keep it for as long as it takes to deal with it and to keep a record of any correction it produced. You are not added to a list, because there is no list.
Corrections
Put Correction in the subject line. Include the page address, the sentence or figure you think is wrong, what you believe the correct version is, and the source for it. This route is prioritized above everything else, and the process is set out in full on our corrections page.
Questions about a specific watch
We are glad to be asked, and we will point you at the right page, but please note the honest limits: we cannot value your watch, we cannot authenticate a watch from photographs, we cannot diagnose a fault remotely, and we cannot tell you whether a particular seller is trustworthy. Those jobs belong to a watchmaker, a specialist dealer or an authentication service who can put hands on the object and carry the liability for being wrong.
What we can do is explain what a specification means, what a standard requires, and what questions to ask the person who can answer.
Permissions and reuse
Put Permissions in the subject line. Short quotations with a link and clear attribution do not need permission. Republishing a page, reproducing a table, or using our material to train a model does. The position is set out on the terms of use page.
Press and interviews
Put Press in the subject line, with your outlet, your deadline and what you need. We will decline anything that would involve us endorsing a product.
Commercial inquiries
Put Commercial in the subject line, and please read the editorial standards and the ownership and funding page first, because between them they rule out almost everything commercial inquiries ask for. Coverage here is not for sale in any form: not a mention, not a link, not a place in a comparison, not an article written to your brief, not a guest post, not a review, and not the removal of something accurate that you would rather we had not published. There is no rate card, because there is no rate. Asking again after being declined will not change the answer.
Privacy, data and legal
Put Privacy or Legal in the subject line. Requests about personal data are handled under our privacy policy, which explains what is processed here and on what basis. Access, correction and deletion requests are answered by the person responsible for the site rather than by a vendor or a ticketing queue, so tell us what you are asking for and how to reach you, and you will get a substantive answer rather than a form. Legal correspondence that needs a named recipient should say so, and it will be arranged.
Writing for us
We occasionally work with watchmakers, materials specialists and long-standing collectors who can show their working and are willing to be named. Put Contribute in the subject line with a note on your background and what you would want to write. We do not publish anything written to promote a business, a product or a listing, however it is dressed, and we check before we publish.
What we cannot help with
- Valuations, appraisals or insurance figures.
- Authentication from photographs.
- Remote fault diagnosis.
- Recommending or vouching for individual sellers, dealers or repairers.
- Investment advice of any kind.
Accessibility
If any part of this site is difficult for you to use, please tell us: that report is treated as a bug, not a suggestion. Say what you were trying to do, what happened, and what you were using, and we will tell you what we are going to do about it and when. See the accessibility statement for what we have already done and what we know is imperfect.
