By using this website you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, please do not use it. "We" and "us" mean Timeless Ticks, the publisher of timelessticks.com, whose ownership and funding are described on the ownership and funding page and whose contact address is at the foot of this one.

1. What this site is

Timeless Ticks publishes general reference information about wristwatches. It is educational material, written for a general audience.

2. It is information, not advice

Nothing on this site is professional advice about your particular watch, your particular purchase, your particular legal position or your particular finances. Specifically:

  • It is not horological advice for a specific watch. A watchmaker who can examine the object is the person to act on.
  • It is not an authentication service. We cannot and do not verify whether any watch is genuine.
  • It is not a valuation. We do not give values and nothing here should be used as one.
  • It is not investment advice. We say repeatedly that a watch is not an investment, and nothing here should be read as encouragement to buy one as an asset.
  • It is not legal advice. Where we describe consumer rights, we describe them in general terms and the law differs by country and changes over time.

Where we describe a procedure that could damage a watch (setting a date complication, unscrewing a crown, opening a case), you follow it at your own risk, and where we say a job belongs with a professional we mean it.

3. Accuracy

We take accuracy seriously, and our method is set out in how we research and our editorial standards. Even so, the content is provided on an "as is" basis. Standards get revised, manufacturers change specifications, and mistakes happen. We do not warrant that the site is complete, current or error free, and we correct errors under our corrections policy rather than guaranteeing there are none.

Always check the manufacturer's own documentation for your specific watch before relying on anything here.

All content on this site, including text, tables, diagrams, the search index and the site design, is copyright Timeless Ticks unless otherwise stated.

You may, without asking:

  • read, print and store pages for your own personal or internal use;
  • quote short passages with clear attribution and a link to the page quoted;
  • link to any page here, from anywhere, using any wording.

You may not, without our written permission:

  • republish, syndicate or mirror pages or substantial parts of them;
  • reproduce our tables, diagrams or structured comparisons;
  • use the content, in whole or in part, to train, fine-tune or evaluate machine learning models, or to build a derivative dataset;
  • scrape the site systematically, or use automated means that place an unreasonable load on it;
  • present the content as your own, or remove attribution;
  • use our name, wordmark or design in a way that suggests we endorse you.

To ask for permission, use the contact page with "Permissions" in the subject line. Reasonable requests from educators, watchmakers and researchers are usually granted.

5. Third-party names and trademarks

Brand names, model names and trademarks mentioned on this site belong to their respective owners and are used descriptively, for identification and commentary. Their use here does not imply any affiliation with, endorsement by or sponsorship from those owners. We are, as stated on our ownership and funding page, independent of the watch industry.

We link to external sites where they add something. We do not control them, we are not responsible for their content, and a link is not an endorsement. External links open in a new tab and are marked as external.

7. Independence, and what a mention means

No watch brand, retailer, marketplace, auction house or industry body owns this site, funds it, or has any influence over what appears on it, and none of them sees a page before publication. Nothing you read here was written for payment or in exchange for goods, loans, servicing or hospitality, and no brand has ever paid for a mention. The full position is set out on the ownership and funding page.

Where a brand, retailer or service is named on this site, it is named descriptively, as an example of a technique, a specification or a way of doing business. A mention is not a recommendation to buy the thing, and it is not a recommendation to buy from anybody in particular. Anything you go on to buy from a third party is a matter between you and them, on their terms, and we are not party to that transaction or responsible for it.

8. Availability

We make no promise that the site will be available uninterrupted. It may be taken down, changed or withdrawn at any time without notice.

9. Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we exclude liability for loss or damage arising from use of, or reliance on, this site, including loss of profit, loss of opportunity, and damage to any watch or other property. Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited.

Nothing here affects any rights you have under consumer protection law that cannot be excluded by a website's terms.

10. Changes

We may amend these terms. The date at the top shows when they were last changed, and continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the amended version.

11. Governing law

These terms, and any dispute arising out of them or out of your use of this site, are governed by the law of the country in which the publisher is established. We do not name that country here, for the same reason we do not publish a business address, which is set out on the ownership and funding page: this is a small independent operation, and we would rather leave a clause general than name a forum we cannot stand behind. If you have a genuine legal need to know it, ask through the contact page and you will be told in writing.

Readers everywhere are welcome and nothing here is restricted by country. Where the law where you live gives you protections that cannot be signed away in a website's terms, including consumer protection rights and the right to bring proceedings in your own courts, this section does not take them from you.

12. Contact

Questions about these terms go to editors@timelessticks.com or through the contact page.
